Personal tax prep for people who don't have a simple tax situation.

Personal Tax Prep

If you've got money coming in on the side, rental income, investments, or you're just tired of wondering if you're missing something, this is the page for you.

What you get

What's included with every return we prepare

Every return gets the same care regardless of package. The package reflects the complexity of your situation and how much access and support you want, not how much attention your return gets.

We look at what you had last year, what changed, what you're likely to miss, and what to do differently going forward. Filing is the last step, not the only one.

  • Federal return preparation
  • Review of last year's return for anything missed
  • Plain-English walkthrough of what was filed and why
  • One forward-looking conversation about next year
  • Secure document upload and e-filing
  • $1M audit defense and identity theft protection

Starting prices cover your federal return. State returns and additional income (business, rental, partnership, S Corp) are priced separately. We confirm your exact total on the free call, before any work starts.

Active duty military couple, combat pay, filing their first joint return

They thought they had to file separately because of a recent deployment. Filing jointly put about a thousand dollars more in their pocket. Federal and both state returns filed within 14 days. When the IRS flagged the return for verification, I helped sort it out.

Single homeowner who'd owed taxes every year before working with me

A major hurricane hit her home the year before, and she'd pulled from her retirement to cover recovery. I worked through the federally declared disaster loss, the recovery rules that softened the retirement withdrawal hit, and energy credits for the heat pump and insulation she installed. First year with me she got a refund of about $2,800. This year that grew to over $6,000 as the disaster benefits carried into year two. Federal return filed within 10 days with a video walkthrough.

Married couple with combined W-2 and self-employment income, navigating a business pivot

His cleaning business had been costing more than it brought in for three years, and he wanted to shut it down and start something new. I cleaned up the books to separate business from personal across payment apps and accounts, then prepared the joint return. The legitimate business loss and credits they qualified for added up to a decent-sized refund. After filing, I walked them through renaming the business instead of dissolving it, filed the annual report, and started the name change paperwork. Sales tax registration, business banking setup, and insurance guidance came next.

Your questions answered

His payment processor reported his barber shop's income to New York. He lives in Florida.

“I feel like I never did taxes before.”

Jordan is a barber in Florida who runs his shop with a business partner. The tax form his payment processor sent to the IRS had two problems. The shop's income was reported under his Social Security number instead of the business's tax ID, and it was assigned to New York, a state where he does not live and the business does not operate.

I worked through what actually belonged on his personal return, what belonged on the partnership return, and what needed to be corrected at the source. He left with a clean filing, his partner's share was recorded correctly, and the reporting was fixed for the next year.

Things people want to know before they book

These are the questions we hear most often. If yours isn't here, the call is free and there's no pressure to move forward.

  • How much will my return actually cost?

The prices above are starting points. Most W-2 returns land near the starting price. Business income, rental income, partnership or S Corp income, or a state return add to the total. We work out your exact number on the free call, before any work starts.

  • How do I pay for the return?

When you accept the proposal, you add a payment method. If you're getting a refund, your fee can come out of it. Otherwise, payment runs when you sign the return. Larger amounts can be split.

  • Why use a tax preparer instead of doing it myself?

A real person looks at your whole situation, not just what you type into a form. We check last year for anything missed, ask what changed, and walk you through what was filed and why. The same person handles your return year after year, so you don't start over every time.

  • What if I've been filing wrong for a few years?

It happens more than people think and it's fixable. We can correct returns from the last three years as a separate project. You'll see what needs fixing and what it costs before any work starts. Bring it up on the free call. No judgment, just next steps.

  • I got a tax form from PayPal or eBay and the number looks higher than what I actually made. What do I do?

This is one of the most common situations we handle. Payment platforms report the total money that came in, which often includes refunds, fees, and things you sold at a loss. We sort out what was actually income versus what was just reported. You shouldn't pay tax on money you never made.

  • What happens after I book the call?

You'll get a tax organizer to fill out before we talk. The call runs 15 to 20 minutes. We go over the organizer, answer questions, and confirm which package fits. If we're a good fit, you get a written proposal. Sign, add a payment method, upload your documents, and we get started. Fully virtual, no office visits.
